Given the tumultuous year it is for the entire world due to the pandemic, it was my privileges to spend a morning with all the Pourakarmikas of my locality. They are the City Corporation’s foot soldiers who works in shifts to keep it clean. Mostly in hazardous conditions, with hardly any protection they go door to door collecting waste and segregating it themselves before loading to trucks for disposal.
I, with other volunteers took the opportunity to meet the Pournakarmikas personally, express our heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the entire city and wish them a sweet and safe festive season.
The event was to distribute sweets to all of them across Bengaluru, a small but meaningful gesture. Supported by B.PAC., it was sponsored by Kiran Mazumdar Shaw of Biocon who had just then herself recovered from COVID-19 infection.
